Memberships for Appraisal ProfessionalsThe changing financial market place necessitates my active The American Society of Appraisers is commited to fostering professional excellence in its membership through education and accreditation.Print a Membership Application or Request a Membership Informational Packet. Non-DesignatedApplicants:Appraisal professionals join ASA as applicants. Upon approval of admission, Applicants have 10 months to complete two requirements: 1) Pass the ASA Ethics Exam (taken right on ASA’s Web site) and 2) Take and pass a 15-hour USPAP course and exam taught by an Appraisal Qualifications Board- (AQB) approved instructor. Once these requirements are met, Applicants become Associates. Associates:Associates are required to pass their discipline’s Principles of Valuation (POV) courses (usually a series of four courses building on appraisal theory and practice) and/or they must possess an appropriate and acceptable equivalency with a participating organization to move to Candidate status. Once Associates meet all the discipline’s educational requirements, they become Candidates. Candidates:Candidates may apply for a designation with ASA provided that they have the appropriate number of years of appraisal experience. Those applying for the Accredited Member (AM) designation must have at least two years of full time appraisal experience and those applying for the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation must have at least five years of full time appraisal experience. Combined with it's deep commitment to ethics and integrity in the DesignatedAccreditation in the American Society of Appraisers is based on appraisal education, experience, written examinations, submission of acceptable appraisal reports, and chapter approval. Accredited Member (AM) or Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA):Having completed the requirements for accreditation, a Candidate will advance to an AM designation or, with more appraisal experience, an ASA designation. The requirements are described in detail in the "Accreditation" section. Fellow (FASA):Fellowships may be bestowed on any Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) by the society's International Board of Governors in recognition of outstanding service to the appraisal profession or the society. Master Gemologist Appraiser:In addition to the ASA designation, those in the Gems and Jewelry discipline may also appry for the Master Gemologist Appraiser® certification if they meet the following requirements:
Other ASA MembershipsStudent Affiliate:Full- and part-time university/college students pursuing careers in valuation sciences may join the society as Student Affiliates. Student Affiliates have an interest in the appraisal profession but do not preprae appraisals or represent themselves as appraisal practitioners. Once they become practicing appraisers, they must join ASA as an applicant and go through the accreditation process. Affiliate:Individuals such as attorneys, accountants, museum curators, insurers, bank and trust officials and others whose work interrelates with the appraisals profession may join the society as Affiliates. Those joining as Affiliates are not committed to seeking professional designation; that is, they do not perform appraisals or provide appraisal services for a fee, salary or other remuneration. Individual membership privilege in ASA is personal and cannot be transferred or applied to business organizations. Applicants, Associates, Candidates, Affiliates, and Student Affiliates are not professionally designated and may not use any of the ASA's professional designations. All members must be of legal age and good character and must be interested in the activities and objectives of the society. |
